When should I start the Solah Somvar vrat?

By popular belief, starting from the first Monday of Sawan, Kartik, Margashirsha or Chaitra is considered auspicious. The book gives this and the other niyam; if your family has its own tradition, follow that.

About this ebook

What's special about Somvar Vrat Katha?

इस पुस्तक में क्या खास है

Bhakts of Bholenath keep the Monday vrat with great faith, and the Mondays of Sawan are extra special. Yet on the day of the vrat there are always questions: which katha to read, in what order to do puja, what to eat, and when and how to complete Solah Somvar. This book has the popular Somvar vrat katha and the Solah Somvar vrat katha in simple, spoken Hindi, so anyone at home can read them aloud to the family.

It also gives the full order of Shiv puja at home: sankalp, jalabhishek, bilvapatra, dhoop-deep, katha and aarti. For Solah Somvar there is the usual time to begin, the niyam for each Monday and the udyapan vidhi for the seventeenth Monday.
